I know very little about Age of Sigmar. That being said, thanks to Mortal Realms, I ended up with a handful of Grimghast and Stormcast Eternal models, so I thought I'd mess around with them a little. Since I'm slowly trying to improve at my painting, I wanted to fool around with a couple of Grimghasts, and the results were pretty good! In the future, I might take photos of the step-by-step process, but I've been so busy with my actual job that I was barely awake while doing this. Maybe next time. This spooky lad (or lass) was the first. It's not awful, but I'm relatively new at painting as a whole, so it was nice to have a model with a lot of flat, flowing, ghostly cloth that I could use to practice paint thinning. I used a standard Basecoat Black for most of their body, then Bone White for the actual skull parts and blindfold. The head of the scythe, although not clear in the picture, is Leadbelcher - technically another base colour, but I liked how it turned out compared to using Chainmail or one of my non-GW paints. The wood is a Revell #82. Later on, I added a blue trim to the hood as well as some dark blue on the mail-like underfabric, although I don't have a decent picture of that. I'm far more proud of my second attempt. Same Basecoat Black / Bone White / Leadbelcher combo, this time with Tamiya Colour XF-78 Wooden Deck Tan for the wood of the scythe. I did more thin layers this time, but the mini still isn't done - I need another pass on the wood, and some more detailing on the stone grave at the bottom to make it look less like metal. Getting the back of the grave correct was tricky, but I'm glad I was able to pull it off. My hand has gotten much steadier since my first attempt as a very early teenager, which was... depressing, to say the least.
Since they're both slotbase miniatures, I can work on a proper base for them in the future - they aren't glued in. Unfortunately, painting these guys isn't easy since they're thin and flop around a lot, but at least the detailing on most of the cloak is minimal enough to make that less important. They'll both go on my desk, and they'll get some tweaks in the near future.
