Techical Writing Projects
I've always really enjoyed writing, both for personal projects and as part of a job. I've always considered it "serious" work and tried to apply as much of my skillset as possible to whatever I write, especially if it's something that needs to represent a client.
Although I've experimented with creative writing in a number of different formats, I find technical writing much easier and more rewarding, especially when it's done for the purposes of educating or informing an audience about a certain product, service, tool or concept. This also extends to website content writing, which I've written in both regular and freelance roles.

NUWTS (Nonspecific Universal Wargame and Tactics System)NUWTS is meant to be a system that encourages that kind of behaviour as often as possible. If you just want to quickly set up a little skirmish between your original faction and a squad of soldiers from a popular science fiction series, you can! If you want to get really in-depth and let the roll of the dice dictate different aspects of each unit on the field, you can! And most importantly, if you want to be able to change things mid-game or add a gameplay element that isn’t even supported by normal rulesets, you can!
Although it's still currently in development, NUWTS is an idea that I originally envisioned a long time ago, then never followed up on until 2020. Inspired by popular tabletop wargame systems like Warhammer 40,000 as well as more general rules systems like GURPS, NUWTS is supposed to be inherently customisable and allow for more freedom when it comes to how each game develops. Each rule is more of an opportunity than a restriction, and the system also has built-in generation tools for setting up characters, events, environments, scenarios and items with the exact level of complexity and granularity that the players want. NUWTS is still being developed, but this page will be updated when it receives any kind of major updates. Over time, I'll create a site purely for the project and add snippets of the writing pre-release. |
Website / Content Articles
While I can't re-upload many of my articles directly to this site (since that would be counterproductive to the point of creating original content that isn't duplicated anywhere else), I can easily provide a huge list of examples in private, including timestamps of when they were completed (or due). Many of these articles were done for marketing purposes, but weren't just written as biased pieces to promote particular products or services: the majority were done as comparisons between a range of various products, offering an unbiased view at several different items offered by competing countries, with the intent being to draw in more readers and users to the site.
The companies I've produced content for include:
- Ascent Digital Media Group
- The Ink Spot
- GetMediaWise
I've also produced a range of different content for my own blogs and projects, mainly to help inform or educate people on certain little-known tools and sub-sections of existing software.
Audio Scripts / Transcripts
Creating scripts and transcripts is a big part of a lot of the audio productions and speed-based projects I've worked on, whether it's voice acting, the script for a podcast episode, or a transcription of a call that needs to be recorded for work purposes. My good grasp of the English languages makes it easy for me to write down spoken sentences into a text form without misunderstanding less-common phrases, but I've also had a lot of practice with writing an easy-to-follow script.
Most of my scripts are written for None In The Chamber (see my Audio Production page) or my as-of-yet-unreleased tutorial videos to go along with my work on Hammer and Crowbar (see below). These are written in a slightly different style to the rest of my content, since they're intended to be spoken rather than read - this means that I need to put a lot more emphasis and care into how each sentence flows, rather than just creating a big dump of information.

Blogs
Hammer and Crowbar
Hammer and Crowbar is the name of one of my current long-term projects, and is focused around creating an in-depth, fully-catalogued resource to help people work with the Source Engine. Due to some spotty official documentation and the loss of some major forums, it's hard for new users to find a good resource that details things that take hours to learn without help.
I was inspired by Eric Guilfoyle's 'Half-Life 2 Mods for Dummies' book (of which I own two copies) to try and create a similar resource, but one that was focused on the entire engine rather than just one small branch of it.
Hammer and Crowbar currently exists in two forms: the Hammer and Crowbar Blog, which I have admittedly failed to update in a while, and a longer document that I'm hoping to publish digitally on Amazon (or a similar site in a physical form) when it's complete.

Thomas' Mod Toolbox / Distant Pillars / VX Ace Resources
Thomas' Mod Toolbox was a short-lived blog I created to host mods, scripts and custom content meant for use in games. It hadn't been updated in over a year, but the content on there still works correctly and can be downloaded from my Mega.NZ account. If I ever get around to creating a similar blog (or turning TMT into a proper site), I'll likely continue adding more mods and download links, but for now it's simply temporary storage.
Distant Pillars and VX Ace Resources were similar projects, both of which have also been abandoned (at least for now) in favour of Hammer and Crowbar.
