(Not) Imperial Guard - Sniper Kitbash Project

12/22/2020

As part of Phoenix Company, I decided to kitbash some freebie pieces given with one of my Spellcrow orders to create some sniper rifles.
Picture
The rifles are made with standard Games Workshop Lasguns that have been cut off after the hand, then wrapped in with some of Spellcrow's resin Laser Rifles (not Improved Laser Rifles) that are lined up with the raised block on the Lasguns themselves. The kneeling sniper has a more accurate fit, so I might have to pull the standing one's gun apart and adjust the position.

The scopes are scopes taken from various Space Marine weapons, mounted backwards. They slotted almost perfectly into the little carry-handle-style gap between the two raised blocks of the Lagsun body. During my original tests, the scope was mounted further up where the two parts of the gun were connected, but it didn't look right.

Note that the tiny canister of the Laser Rifle is still placed under the front - I might try to add a bipod or something instead at a later date, but I honestly quite like having it there since it gives some extra character to the design. I also considered removing the magazine and magazine well, but again, it felt right to keep it there.

The standing sniper uses Spellcrow Shock Troops legs and a Spellcrow Shock Troops weapon specialist head, which includes the little mask/breathing apparatus. The body (although hidden) is one of the small batch I got from Anvil Industry as a test of their scales - it had to be modified to fit, since Anvil don't quite match the scale I needed (using their parts makes models too short, at about chest height).

The arms are, naturally, Games Workshop Imperial Guardman arms. A small disc has been placed between the torso and the legs to increase the height, which is a round magazine that came from a MiniArt 1:35 weapons kit that I'm just using as spare parts and scrap (since the weapons are too slim to use in conversions). I'll probably add some pouches to cover up the break in the body.

The kneeling sniper uses Anvil Industry legs that I plan to bulk up with some spare plastic, like some of the other uses of the legs - adding plates to the sides, etc. The torso is also Anvil, but I didn't include a break between the body and the legs since the kneeling makes it look proportionally normal. The weapon and arms are the same story, but the head doesn't have the mask (it's a normal Spellcrow Shock Troops head).

I tried to shave the Aquilas off the Lasguns before creating the rifles, since I don't want my army to have any association with the Imperial Guard or the Imperium of Man as a whole. I have two more sniper rifles ready to use that are built in the exact same way, also sans Aquilas.
